My Alter-ego : Do you have ICE in your mobile?
Me : Crazy or what? ice in mobile? !%$#@&?
![]()
My Alter-ego : I meant ICE and not ice.
Me : What’s the difference?
My Alter-ego : Good question! Here you go…
ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. It is a new concept catching on in the developed and developing countries where cellular phone usage has become essential. ICE numbers or ICE contacts are nothing but the contact numbers of people stored in your mobile phone, whom you think are to be intimated in case of any emergency. For example, you store your home number as ICE in your mobile’s contact list. You are caught in an emergency, a person who rescues you picks up your mobile and sees your ICE number and intimates them. It is as simple as that. If you have more than one contact to be informed, you can store them as ICE, ICE1, ICE2 and so on.

Me : Oh I see! It is a good thing. Who started it?
My Alter-ego : Bob Brotchie, a paramedic is the man behind this concept. He is travelling places to promote this as a universal concept. Hope, everyone follows suit. Imagine a world, when people are informed at the right time so they don’t miss there loved ones.
Me : Oh yeah! That will be great! By the by, Where can I find more information on ICE numbers and their usage?
MY Alter-ego : icecontact.com
Me : Thanks! I am gonna chill my mobile with some ice sorry ICE numbers.

thanks da
You are welcome bro!
Here is the ICE wiki
First of all – nice template.
And the ICE funda is also good. I have numbers on my mobile titled “myself”, “home”, “dad” and “house owner” which is supposed to be for easy access on the event of an emergency. now i dont know how well ICE and ICE1 makes sense in figuring out who to call…. but ofcourse if it becomes a standard and is known to all, i’m game to use it.
good thinking.
Thanks Umesh! I found a good template at last. I am gonna stick with this. You are correct, it will be great if this becomes a standard. By the by, it is not advisable to store the contact names as dad, wife, mom etc. There was a case in the US where a guy lost all his belongings including his wallet and cellular phone. The man who stole it got access to this guy’s ATM cards. He messaged the owner’s wife asking the PIN and got all the funds wiped off.
May be, one should be educated enough not to send personal information over phone without verifying the credibility.
Thats something ridiculous. I would divorce my stupid wife instantly if she had done that.
Btw as of now, i dont have a stupid wife and all i care is to get someone to get hold of my people easily on an event of emergency. Everything has its own pros and cons. Only thing is that we have to weigh them. Your story is indeed dangerous but i think that is something which could have been avoided. Anyways thanx, I have decided not to marry an engineer.
“I have decided not to marry an engineer.” grrrh!
