After college, I joined a call center and there was a trainer who had good brains. She used to train us on the English necessities for a call center job. Apart from that, we used to have out-of-the-subject-discussions with her at the near by tea shop. One day, she told me that I will never have a girl friend in my life or rather it was really difficult for me to find one and sustain it. Years passed and here I am trying to find the answers.
I asked two of my good old friends who are girls and here are their responses.
Girl 1 : You lack that extra little personal care which differentiates friendship and love. Hence you have girls who are friends and not a girlfriend.
Girl 2 : May be you never tried or expressed your love to anyone. Try to find the answers within you. Yopu have the answers. What’s your problem now? Is life so boring without a girlfriend? If you think so, go ahead and find one.
Analyzing these two responses, a lot of questions arise within me.
1. Are my relationships lacking emotions?
2. Am I too brash?
3. Am I too shy when it comes to proposing a girl?
4. Am I trying to be too rational?
As always, questions remain unanswered.

As they say its like shaadi ka laddoo – jo naa khaaye woh lalchaye aur jo khaaye woh pachtaye.
It means the “kalyana laddoo” is something you are greedy for till you eat it and after you eat, you regret.
Btw even i have the same questions which you have. So dont worry, you have company.

Adding a couple of questions to your list:
1) Do I have a good social life where I meet the kind of girls I’d like to have as girlfriends?
2) Do I drop subtle hints to girls that I like them more than as “just friends”.
I guess that girls need to know that you treat them as special, care for them in a *different* way, than just as friends, and also need to have men behaving a little romantically with them – to start responding. A lot of men I know lack in these departments, and hence, even if they do like someone in a special way, never really convey the message to the girls. Please remember though, that you don’t want to convey the message to all the girls
. There should be one special one – if you are taking time to find that person it is okay. But make sure you are not losing out if there is one you know right.

I have a good social life. At lease I think so. I go to movies,beach,pubs (although I quit drinking sometime ago
) etc; but only with guys or girls I know well. One more problem, I don’t get to have many girls working alongside me in the job I am in. I have not resorted to dating yet. May be I should try it. I don’t know.
