I rented a car (practicing driving) on Saturday and was out to a local Starbucks here in Burbank with my room mate. I ordered my favorite Cafe Latte and he ordered some type of Chai (Tea) which brought back memories of my dad. He used to try different recipes of tea on Sunday evenings. He picked up the recipes from local dailies or magazines. Most Sundays you can see him with a bit paper cutting and he will ask everyone in the household to try his new tea. As a coffee drinker, I was reluctant in taking tea. I did not want to be the lab rat. I tried (in fact forced to) it once and believe me, it was really good. I started liking his tea and waited for his next experiment. I think he can make tea with most spices.

I used to make fun of him by saying ” If you ever lose job, start a tea shop and we can make money”. I miss the tea and the fun now.

If I go back to India and tell him tea costs $3 here, he will make the conversion calculation and ask how can people drink tea for Rs.<del datetime="2009-09-15T17:35:22+00:00">150</del> 145. I think most Indian parents think that way. I don’t blame them. I like it in a way.

it is raining chai in my memories.

Living in Chennai for all these years has made me to cope up with the weather conditions. It is hot most part of he year and temperatures go upto 40 degrees in summer. I have seen people crib about Chennai and its weather conditions et al. One cannot expect the climate in Chennai to be like Munnar or Kodai or any other hill station for that matter. Come on people, understand that Chennai is hot most part of the year because of its geography and not for any other reason. May be it is fashion to say how hard it is to live in Chennai just because it is hot. May be so….

P.S.:- Just a hot post to cool myself…

Michael Schumacher, Montoya, Barrichello…

Do these names sound familiar to you?

A question asked by one of my college mates to me. I answered in the negative and he gave a why-do-you-live-on-this-world look. I never knew that following Formula one (F1) racing was mandatory to live. Next sunday, I somehow managed to sit in front of TV and watch F1 racing for a few hours just to prove that I also own a piece of life. All that I could decipher was the Vroom Vroom sound and people with advanced computer screens watching drivers making wild turns in the wildest tracks (as my collegemate called it). There was a commentator who was shouting like hell and I could hear only Schumacher, Barichello again and again. An hour passed by and then I realised that this was not my cup of tea and switched gears to a local channel.

A few months passed by and then came the FIFA football world cup. My dear life gauger college mate started his campaign on football and how Brazil was his favorite team et al. I initially thought this guy was too good at sports but reliable sources in our CBI(College Bureau of Investigation) revealed that he did it all just to grab attention of girls and guys just to show off.

One day, we had our turn and we made most of the life gauger in our own way. After which, he never said anything in front of us again. Those bits are censored for public read.

Everyone wants a bit of publicity or rather the hunger for recognition whch makes us to go an extra mile and get it. But I strongly feel that faking it will not help on a longer run. It is applicable for any particular profession or any situation in life.

For instance, I have seen numerous people faking English accents when others can easliy figure it out. Once a group of friends went to a hotel and there was a good-looking waitress. One of my friends asked her where the Bar was and she answered in a very strange accent which made us all burst out into laughter.

My Friend : Can you let us know where is the bar?

The Waitress : Bear ! The bear is in the 7th floor.

Recently, I saw a couple of guys in local Train and here is how their introduction went. They had pins on most part of their forehead and one of the guy wore a Rapper kinda costume.

Guy A : Sup? (I think he was trying to ask What’s up).

Guy B : Naa Much.. (Not Much).

Why am I writing about this suddenly? I was watching faking it, a series in Discovery Travel and Living channel which brought back some memories.

Haven’t you ever watched Faking it or travel and living?

I don’t know why & how-you-live-in-this-world….

Me : Hmmm, I was kind of out of my mind for sometime now.

My Alter-ego : Oh I see. What’s that you want from me today?

Me : What’s the difference between a businessman, carpenter, a dancer, a doctor, a driver and an IT(Information Technology) professional?

My Alter-ego : Only way is by the skills required by the profession. No one person in particular is superior or inferior.

Me : If so, why is there a huge difference in the individual salary or money these people make? Why is that people degrade others based on profession?

My Alter-ego : Tough questions to answer. I don’t know. May be you can ask people about it.

Me : Do you know why?

My sister and my cute little niece will be here by the second week of march. This in itself thrills me and makes me to feel very nice. It’s been two years since my sister left us after her marriage. Thanks to Skype, we never felt that she is miles away from us.

After the entry of Aanya, the scene changed a lot with all of us shifting our attention towards her. My dad makes it a point to ask me or Balaji if Gayu was on Skype. He checks his emails daily to see if there are any new photos of Aanya uploaded. Weekend never passes by without him logging in to Skype at least once in three hours to see if Gayu was on. The news of my sister’s itinerary brought excitement to us all. Mom is really happy to have the young one back in India. Balaji as always is calm, composed. But he hinted that he will take Aanya out to railway station to show her train. One of our uncles did that to Balaji. Dad is sure to tend the visiting ladies with utmost care and warmth.

What am I doing amidst all these? I am thrilled as everyone is. I was even thinking of what to do if my niece started walking when she visits us. I was thinking of buying her anklet (kolusu) so that we can enjoy the jill… jill… sound when she walks around the home. Also, I am planning to take a week long vacation in March just to ensure that I am with my cute little niece.

Excitement to be continued…..

Update Sis and niece did not turn up due to some unavoidable reasons
