adsense – adds sense?

When I initially started this blog , I was very much attracted to the concept of adsense and making money out of it. I started to explore the world of google adsense and added all the codes and buttons given in my google adsense account. I even went ahead and signed up with Yahoo , Amazon as affiliate and filled up my site with their buttons too. After all these , I went to bed thinking that I will be a billionaire or atleast a millionaire in a few months. :-)
In the next few days, reality struck and I understood that filling up site with adsense codes and buttons does not bring visitors and it is the content that brings people to the site. My site looked terrible with buttons and ads flashing all over the place. Took help from Balaji and cleaned it up a bit. Now, I just have a single adsense code in my site. I don’t want to irritate my visitors anymore. Now I feel that adsense definitely adds sense.

BSNL offers Unlimited Broadband for Rs.900 per month

Now BSNL offers unlimited broadband services for Rs.900 per month from May 1 2006. It got my attention as I am one of the users of Data One broadband services offerred by BSNL. It is a happy and great news. I expected this to happen a few months before. :-)

I checked with Data One customer service at 1800-424-1600 and confirmed the same with them. But, I really hate BSNL’s way of changing plans for existing customers. A lady at the call centre informed me that change of plans can be done only after filing a form with the local telephone exchange. Moreover, the plan change will come into effect only by the next billing cycle. And the irony is that India’s largest broadband service provider does not have a web portal for switching plans. Typical government business practices.

Whatever, I am happy that they have brought the sought over change at last. Here is the advertisement from BSNL’s site.

FavIcon from Pictures for websites

I was curious to see a lot of websites with FavIcons in the address bar and also in the favorites toolbar. I wanted create a FavIcon for my website with a decent picture of mine. Googling favicon creator fetched me a lot of results. The first result helped me to accomplish my task.
The tutorial on how to create FavIcon from Pictures is really easy and clear. They even help us to test it online. After all, easy tutorials like these will help a lot of dumb webmasters like me to learn a bit.

Customise Bloglines blogrolls in WordPress

I use bloglines as my feed reader. I am quite comfortable with it because it is online and so I don’t have to worry about missing any of the feeds, as I am used to read blogs both at office and home. My blogroll in bloglines can be shared publicly and there is an option to mark certain feeds as private so that they are not shown public.

I was pondering all day today on how to customise bloglines blogroll in my weblog. I could not figure it out as it required expertise in php and css. Oops! I am not an expert in any of these though. As always, I turned towards Balaji and he came to the rescue. He took a few hours and coded up my bloglines blogrolls seen in the sidebar. It has come out well. Everytime, I add or remove a feed in bloglines, the blogroll displayed in my weblog is going to pick it up and update it automatically. Good job man! Thanks a lot!

If anyone is looking out for code, mail me at karthickdotraghavanatyahoodotcom.

The latest visitor of your website

Balaji has coded up a nice and small program in Ruby which helps to find the latest visitors of one’s website. I am using it in my wordpess blog. For more information, check out Latest Visitor – Using Web Access Logs in RUBY. Happy tracing! :-)

Moving Servers

Balaji informed me that we are moving servers for our blogs. My apologies for any trouble caused or whatsoever.

Site moved. Thanks

i4giveu.com – the biggest Confession room in the world

Going through my regular feed reads, I stumbled upon i4giveu.com which offers forgiveness to all the sins and wrong doings. Ok, let me call it an online repository of confessions. Every confession is ranked with the Forgiven or No forgive ranking. One can register or confess anonymously. For ranking a confession, one needs to register though. Ones reputation will be judged from Angel to devil upon the confession ranking, the higher the score the closer to Angel status you get and vise versa. Rank each confession after you truly decided on the sinners fate, the higher the score the closer to forgiveness. A sure thing is that it is good site to visit when one has a lot of time to waste and also some of the confessions are really interesting to read. Let us see how far this site goes through. Enjoy confessing and forgiving. :-)

google calendar – what can we do with this?

Google released yet another online service google calendar last week. It has become a way for google to release a new product every month. What google calendar does?

Google calendar is a free online shareable calendar service. It is used to simply manage our schedules and even share them with our friends and family members. Interestingly, events can be scheduled with this service and can be shared among a group of people. Moreover, publicly available calendars can be searched and added. for Example, I have added the FIFA Worldcup schedule in my calendar service. As always, google has got its own google calendar support page for all the questions one has. I have given links for certain publicly available calendars below. Enjoy scheduling.
