Michael Schumacher, Montoya, Barrichello…

Do these names sound familiar to you?

A question asked by one of my college mates to me. I answered in the negative and he gave a why-do-you-live-on-this-world look. I never knew that following Formula one (F1) racing was mandatory to live. Next sunday, I somehow managed to sit in front of TV and watch F1 racing for a few hours just to prove that I also own a piece of life. All that I could decipher was the Vroom Vroom sound and people with advanced computer screens watching drivers making wild turns in the wildest tracks (as my collegemate called it). There was a commentator who was shouting like hell and I could hear only Schumacher, Barichello again and again. An hour passed by and then I realised that this was not my cup of tea and switched gears to a local channel.

A few months passed by and then came the FIFA football world cup. My dear life gauger college mate started his campaign on football and how Brazil was his favorite team et al. I initially thought this guy was too good at sports but reliable sources in our CBI(College Bureau of Investigation) revealed that he did it all just to grab attention of girls and guys just to show off.

One day, we had our turn and we made most of the life gauger in our own way. After which, he never said anything in front of us again. Those bits are censored for public read.

Everyone wants a bit of publicity or rather the hunger for recognition whch makes us to go an extra mile and get it. But I strongly feel that faking it will not help on a longer run. It is applicable for any particular profession or any situation in life.

For instance, I have seen numerous people faking English accents when others can easliy figure it out. Once a group of friends went to a hotel and there was a good-looking waitress. One of my friends asked her where the Bar was and she answered in a very strange accent which made us all burst out into laughter.

My Friend : Can you let us know where is the bar?

The Waitress : Bear ! The bear is in the 7th floor.

Recently, I saw a couple of guys in local Train and here is how their introduction went. They had pins on most part of their forehead and one of the guy wore a Rapper kinda costume.

Guy A : Sup? (I think he was trying to ask What’s up).

Guy B : Naa Much.. (Not Much).

Why am I writing about this suddenly? I was watching faking it, a series in Discovery Travel and Living channel which brought back some memories.

Haven’t you ever watched Faking it or travel and living?

I don’t know why & how-you-live-in-this-world….

After a fully loaded day at office, came back home tired to find that there was curd rice sans side dish for dinner. Was searching the entire kitchen for something or the other to make up for the missing side dish. Unfortunately, there was not any available. Frustrated, opened the refridgerator to fetch a bottle of cold water. That’s when I found out a box full of Thirunelveli Halwa. Tried using halwa as a side dish for the curd rice. It tasted yummy. Eureka! That’s when the curd rice combo with sweets was born. I tested this combo with every sweet under the sun. Every test produced good results. If not, I will not be in a position to write this story.

Shared this with a friend and he said this is the most weird food habit he has ever heard of.

I don’t think it is so weird or Am I the only one in this league?

If you have a food habit like this, you may consider this as a tag and write about it.

We miss your blog. What happened to you? Why are you not blogging regularly?

One fine morning, I received tonnes of such SMS and emails. I was slowly replying to them all. That is when my dad switched off the fans and reminded me that I have slept for twelve hours straight. Yet another weekend dream.

Pondering over a cup of filter coffee, I was curious to think what made me a irregular blogger or what made people to forget that I own a blog. Here it goes. And what is the purpose of my blogging.

a. No one reads my blog. My blog is a total failure. My blog does not interest anyone. I should not blog anymore.

b.Everyone is busy to have missed it and will start patronizing my blog once I start blogging again.

I always wanted to write diary or a record of my life’s happenings. Would it not be great to look over it again when I get old? I don’t want to fool anyone with such a answer. My intention of blogging started with Umesh and Balaji. I thought if Umesh and Balaji can blog, why not I? It’s kind of egotic. But that is how I started blogging. Through most my posts, I wanted to get attention or rather I tried to seek recognition. So, the whole purpose of my blog was recognition seeking. I don’t want to hide it or feel shy in saying it.

Is it right or wrong?

Some people blog for recognition seeking. Some blog for passing time. Some blog to vent their energy on the things they are passionate about. Which is right and which is wrong? This is again a relative thing and cannot be answered or rather judged. So, I have started blogging again.

What’s your purpose of blogging?

P.S.:- This post is just to break the hiatus and to show people that I do think over a cup of filter coffee and I do sleep for 12 hours straight on a weekend.

If you are a late night or early morning TV watcher, you might be familiar with shows where people sell gem stones, change names and marriage dates, sell medicines and tips for a robust sex life, rebuild houses etc with the only goal of bringing prosperity and happiness into people’s life. People trust them all because they need instant success in life without hardwork. Last week, was watching one of these shows and there was a conversation going on between the host ( a name or numerologist ) and a participant. (The original conversation was in Tamil)

Participant : You say that you can bring peace and prosperity into life by changing people’s names, is it possbile to change country names too to bring world peace?

Host : Absolutely, it is possible. Take the case of India and Pakistan. India is in 5 and pakistan is in 7. That’s the reason for the enemity between these two countries. If names are changed to match 5 and 6, everything will go smooth.

Once I and my friend had to push a bike, which refused to start, for a mile, to a mechanic. There is a phrase in Tamil slang which tells about the spanner number 10. It goes this way “pattham number spanner”. Mr.Mechanic commanded his sub-ordinate for the spanner number 10 and he used it to fix the issue in minutes. I and my friend, engineering graduates, were amazed to see how great the spanner number 10 was and were discussing how lecturers never gave us spanner number 10 and expected us to produce magic results in labs. We forgot the fact that it is the mechanic who used the spanner deftly to fix our issue. A few months later, we indulged in a conversation which led us to the magic spanner number ten. Here goes our beautiful conversation.

Me : Is it something special with the spanner number 10 or the mechanic?

My Friend : I think it is the spaner number 10. I have heard about the numbered spanners and how they fix problems et all. One can go ahead and do a thesis on the subject.

Me : Really? How interesting it will be. Long live the person who invented the spanners! May be we shall have a spanner number 10 for all our problems so that we can tweak them with a single twist. What you say?

My Friend : Yes! One day we may.

Thinking about this incident puts me in laughter and at the same time I am thinking about putting the spanner number 10 for our day today situations.

I wish I had a spanner number 10

to organise my time in a better way.

How about you?

P.S.:- I heard someone shouting loud for a spanner number 10. Turned back to see that my neighbour looking for the spanner number 10 to tighten my loosened screws. hehe!

In train, a conversation between two college students,

A : Man! What have you planned after studies?

B : My dream all my life is to land up in a company like Infy. Need to get settled soon man.

As a spectator in the conversation between two relatives,

He : Heard that you are planning your daughter’s marriage by this year end. How far is the groom search going on?

She : Yes! We are. The problem is, not all grooms are settled. We are looking for someone who is settled in life.

He : oh! Settled?

She : Like someone who works in companies such as infy, TCS, CTS and who has a good salary, bank balance, a car, etc.

He : oh I see! My wishes for your daughter to get a settled soon.

This time around, I asked my dear friend my alter-ego about getting settled,

Me : What does it mean to be settled and how to tackle these questions?

My Alter-ego : Boy! It’s a good question which everyone in life has different notions and opinions. It can be answered in many ways. I am giving a sample here.

Emotionally (you may lose the person’s acquaintance if this way is approached) : Do you think getting a job in Infosys or TCS or any other company means that one is settled? If so half in the world are not settled. Stop preaching wrong notions and move away!

Philosophically (The person at the other end may think that you have gone nuts) : If I think that my life is settled, it is. If I think that I am not settled in life, then I am not settled. :-) It all depends on the individual. There’s not a benchmark or hard written rule in life which defines the word settled. A few of us have started to attach our lives to the materialistic world so much that one who has a good bank balance, big company, a own house, marriage at the right time etc makes one feel settled. For others this may not work out and it may seem ridiculous. The truth is, neither of the two is right nor wrong. Money, is both a beautiful and shabby tool to which we have attached our lives so well that it leads to the questions like getting settled and feeling happy etc; The fact is that we are all running a big marathon named life for which the end point is a big zero with few of us thinking that the way we chose to run is the correct one and the others have chosen the wrong path. People who are settled or not settled are defined on these terms. The othrs may feel it the opposite way.The irony is that when everyone is running towards a big zero in life, does it matter which path one chose? ;-)

So, got my point? Now answer me! Are you settled?

Me : Guruji! I am already running and I am not going to think about the paths. As far as I feel that I am happy, I will run.

My Alter-ego : Good my boy! How do you define happiness then?

Me : $#&^**$$ (started running)

My Alter-ego : (like Vadivelu) They call me nuts if I say this! :)

அய்யோ!அய்யோ! இத்த சொன்னா நம்மள பைத்தியம்னு சொல்றாங்க. :)

P.S. :- The person named My Alter-ego is not a reknowned pyschologist or philospher. He does not write any coumns on leading magazines. He is another nut like Mr. Karthick Raghavan and he is currently working on winning the gone case contest. :)

And one last thing, if you are looking for the links to download the songs, I am sorry! Try elsewhere.

India is out of the cricket world cup 2007. What next? Sivaji, the output of Superstar Rajnikanth and director Shankar combination is making news now. Music is by A.R.Rehman and as always expectations and stakes are high. Latest news is that four songs of the movie Sivaji, are leaked out and doing rounds on the internet before the official launch of the songs. Rumours are spreading across the internet with some saying that the versions released are scratches and the final version is nowhere near to the leaked ones.

Rajni movie, news about leaked songs, media speculation, hype and rumours tempted me to listen to them. Who wants to be left behind? The four songs I listened to were of good quality (192 kbps , 44 khz mp3 quality).

Here is my review of the leaked songs. As always with every A.R.Rehman film, the songs does not stick to the mind immediately. But are catchy, after hearing them twice or thrice.

Sahara pookal poothatho

Unwritten law - Every Rajni movie should have a melody song shot at a foreign location.

I guess this song sung by Udit Narayan must fall into the category of Baaba kichu kichu thaa, Konja Neram konja neram and the like. This song is a mellifluous one and I have started humming it since I heard it the first time. It’s been long time since one heard Udit Narayan singing a Tamil song the Tamil way. Thanks to Rehman for making it happen. ;-) Hope that the song is shot well with Rajni not dancing the way he did for Baba kichu kichu thaa song. :-P

Poompaavaai aambal aambal, Punnagayo Mouwal mouwal (vaa ji vaa ji vaa ji, en jeevan nee Sivaji)

The track by Hariharan and chorus has some and good lyrics in Tamil (Vairamuthu?). I think it is time for me to buy a good Tamil dictionary.;-) Sample lyrics (easy ones).

Male : Adi Nettail Nilavey, Rettail Thimirey

Nenjai Mutti kollu

Female : vaa ji vaa ji vaa ji, en jeevan nee Sivaji (twice)

Oru Koodai Sunlight

This number made me laugh the first time I heard it. Are we in India or at US? Why should one have a RAP song that too in a Rajni movie? Did Rehman forget the BABA RAP? Leave RAP to the westerners. They are good at it. Let us do what we are best at. Rehman, notorious for his late night recordings might not have left the singers out for nature call. One can feel it when the singers try really hard under the cover of rapping. In tamil slang we say it this way when a singer tries to hard. :-P

இந்த முக்கு முக்குறான்

intha mukku mukkuraan

One consoltaion is that Rajni’s smile is included in bits at certain instances of the song.

Theme Music

Is this the real theme music? I doubt it.

Overall the music is good. One need to wait for the official audio launch till the April 4th and give the final verdict on the music. And also watch the movie to see how Rajni has danced in style.

Tid bits

Was going through a Tamil weekly and it was mentioned that punch dialogue in the movie is “ji, Sivaji” and Rajni says this is in different voice modulations and it might resemble ”Bond, James Bond”. And adding to this, music will be blared and voices shouting ji sivaji in the background with DTS effect. I think it is a festive treat for all Rajni fans.
