Man in Black

Man in Black

I love the colour black so much that I use a lot of black Tees and Jeans. This one photo was taken with a Canon Digital SLR is one of my favorites. Main reason is that it has come out very well.
I suppose it was taken by my bro or might be my bro-in-law which I don’t quite remember now. The location is my front side portico of my home. The lighting and the colours have come out very well in this photo. When I showed it to one of my friends, her first reaction was that it was too gaudy. Is it so??? Anyway, I like black and so this photo.

Traveller’s Gear

It’s been a long time since I posted here. Hmmm, May be I am too busy with work and other routines or Am I not managing my time properly? Need to think about it later.Anyway, let me delve into today’s post.

Travelling is a great thing to do. I would not say it is my passion and all. I have not travelled much all my life. The longest distance I have travelled is from Chennai to Gujarat. It was just a 5 day trip. Out of which, four days were on train.

One of my favorite shows on televison is “Globe Trekker” which is aired regularly on Discovery’s Travel and Living channel. In this program, the presenter travels different countries and show us the culture and living. They use minimum travel gear and show all cheap and best places to stay and eat. Good concept though.I never miss the ones which are presented by Megan McCormick, Ian Wright and Justin Shapiro. The presentation from these people just nails you down on the chair for an hour. They make you feel as if you are on the country with their lively presentation. Gosh! Megan and Ian steal the show. Megan with her looks and bubbly presentation and Ian with his down to earth simplicity. This one show really inspired me. I am planning to travel a lot of countries from now on.

So, as a beginner, I need to work out on some basic gears for a good traveller. I was discussing with Balaji and we have come up with a list. Here it goes…

  1. A very strong Backpack
  2. 10 T-shirts,4 Bermudas and a Jean too
  3. A torch
  4. A pair of trainers and 6 pairs of socks
  5. A very good Digital Camera. A Digital SLR will be too good to resist
  6. A Swiss-Army knife
  7. Traveller’s cheque of $1000 minimum
  8. International Plastic card

I suppose these are the essentials for a good traveller. If you have any to add to this list, you are welcome. I am gonna buy all these within a year’s time and start travelling.

The Magic of Cntrl+Enter key in Browsers

Shortcut keys really make life easier when working with Windows environment. One of my favourites is the cntrl+enter key combination which adds http:// .com to the word when typed in browser. Last week, at my office PC, one of my friends complained that cntrl+enter does not work in IE anymore. When asked whether he worked around to find what happened, his answer was to reinstall IE.

Gosh! I will never try reinstalling IE. I have had miserable experiences in that. Googled for some work around and Bingo! there was one. the option use in-line Autocomplete for web addresses was unchecked.

After checking the same, it worked fine. It’s such a pain to use IE without short-cut keys. After all, working in IE in itself is a pain.

P.S.:-
the moral of the story is, Don’t ask people, for solutions, who uninstall and reinstall everything if there is a problem. If possible try using a good browser other than IE.

Story behind the photos in my site

It’s been more than a week since this site was launched. I have been asking two guys to design the header portion of my site where I can add my photos. The reason was because all my fans wanted to see my photo flashing in my site. Here it goes to all my fans. hehe! J

I had to cajole my brother in doing this photo thing for me. These pictures were taken at my home by my brother-in-law. We used picasa to collage the three photos and after some work in Gimp, it has come good. It is not very bad though.

Ok, Let us come to the story behind the photo. If you lookclosely, the first photo, in which I look side wards, shows how pensive I can be. The second one shows some sort of reluctance to laugh. The third one shows my brashness and how I look like when I laugh out loud. So, this one collection shows all about me. It has come so natural that a lot of my friends suggested me to send it to Discovery, animal planet and national geographic. Grrrh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fools! They don’t know the meaning of a natural photo.

Whatever, this is my own site and it should show how I look like and I don’t want to cheat others with a gaudy photo. May be like the ones which our Indian heroes release before a film shoot. Please feel free to comment how it has come out.

P.S.:- My Brother when trying to bring the photos to the right has done something wrong that the caption in my t-shirt showsmirrored.

Firefox- rediscover the web

I was introduced to firefox may be a year ago. Usually, a lot of computer stuff I know comes through my brother or through friends. This particular browser got my attention when I joined geekstogo, a free online forum for computer help.

I initially was reluctant in using it. Then I read a blog about the browser and learnt how it eases browsing on the web. I don’t use all the features but a few things I like in firefox are tabbed browsing, multiple search engine search, RSS, extensions. I have stopped using IE except a few cases where the site programmer has programmed in such a way that it only work with IE. One great example is bsnl’s broadband website. Shortcut keys are great in FF. I use ctrl+T and ctrl+k to such an extent that it has become addctive. But the sad part is that I am not allowed to use FF at office. I am handicapped without FF at office.
At home, I am used to FF to such an extent that I open a single browser window for an entire browsing session and open multiple tabs in it. I have not used the firefox browser which runs from a USB drive. This is a cool feature that it runs from the USB drive and there is no need of installing the same in the pc. it is called the portable firefox.
Interesting thing is that FF, has captured a good market share among browsers. One big reason is because it is free and developed by an open source organization Mozilla. So there is going to be room for lot of improvisations. One may not wonder if IE becomes extinct in a few years. Moreover, google donates up to $1 for referrals which suggest to download firefox with google toolbar.
Apart from these, FF is a very safe browser that it does not allow ActiveX controls and BHOs and other exploitable scripts to run in it. IE is more vulnerable to these.

After all, patronizing a free product is easy though!

Please help to spread firefox and promote good quality software.

Still thinking of migrating from IE to Firefox?
