Faking it

Michael Schumacher,  Montoya, Barrichello…

Do these names sound familiar to you?

A question asked by one of my college mates to me. I answered in the negative and he gave a why-do-you-live-on-this-world look. I never knew that following Formula one (F1) racing was mandatory to live. Next sunday, I somehow managed to sit in front of TV and watch F1 racing for a few hours just to prove that I also own a piece of life. All that I could decipher was the Vroom Vroom sound and people with advanced computer screens watching drivers making wild turns in the wildest tracks (as my collegemate called it). There was a commentator who was shouting like hell and I could hear only Schumacher, Barichello again and again. An hour passed by and then I realised that this was not my cup of tea and switched gears to a local channel.

A few months passed by and then came the FIFA football world cup. My dear life gauger college mate started his campaign on football and how Brazil was his favorite team et al. I initially thought this guy was too good at sports but reliable sources in our CBI(College Bureau of Investigation) revealed that he did it all just to grab attention of girls and guys just to show  off.

One day, we had our turn and we made most of the life gauger in our own way. After which, he never said anything in front of us again. :) Those bits are censored for public read.

Everyone wants a bit of publicity or rather the hunger for recognition whch makes us to go an extra mile and get it. But I strongly feel that faking it will not help on a longer run. It is applicable for any particular profession or any situation in life.

For instance, I have seen numerous people faking English accents when others can easliy figure it out. Once a group of friends went to a hotel and there was a good-looking waitress. One of my friends asked her where the Bar was and she answered in a very strange accent which made us all burst out into laughter.

My Friend : Can you let us know where is the bar?

The Waitress : Bear ! The bear is in the 7th floor.

Recently, I saw a couple of guys in local Train and here is how their introduction went. They had pins on most part of their forehead and one of the guy wore a Rapper kinda costume.

Guy A : Sup? (I think he was trying to ask What’s up).

Guy B : Naa Much.. (Not Much).

Why am I writing about this suddenly? I was watching faking it, a series in Discovery Travel and Living channel which brought back some memories.

Haven’t you ever watched Faking it or travel and living?

I don’t know why & how-you-live-in-this-world…. :-P

Vacation times – Kodaikanal

மனிதர் உணர்ந்துக் கொள்ள இது மனிதக் காதல் அல்ல ….
அதையும் தாண்டி புனிதமானது…. புனிதமானது…. புனிதமானது….

Manidhar unarnthuk kolla ithu manidhak kaathal alla…

Athayum thaandi punithamaanathu…  punithamaanathu… punithamaanathu…

Excerpt from the song Kanmani Anbodu Kaathalan – movie (Tamil) Gunaa. Most part of this movie is shot in Kodaikanal, a hill station in Tamil Nadu.

Oooh ooh! It’s vacation time for me and I am heading to Kodaikanal tonight with a group of friends and will be back to Chennai by monday morning. I have never been to kodai but I have heard a lot about it. Hope this is going to be a great trip and a memorabe one. :)

What’s wrong with a profession?

Me : Hello buddy, how are you?

My Alter-ego : I am fine man. Long time, no see?

Me : Hmmm, I was kind of out of my mind for sometime now.

My Alter-ego : Oh I see. What’s that you want from me today?

Me : What’s the difference between a businessman, carpenter, a dancer, a doctor, a driver and an IT(Information Technology) professional?

My Alter-ego : Only way is by the skills required by the profession. No one person in particular is superior or inferior.

Me : If so, why is there a huge difference in the individual salary or money these people make? Why is that people degrade others based on profession?

My Alter-ego : Tough questions to answer. I don’t know. May be you can ask people about it.

Me : Do you know why?

Feeling ni(e)ce

My sister and my cute little niece will be here by the second week of march. This in itself thrills me and makes me to feel very nice. It’s been two years since my sister left us after her marriage. Thanks to Skype, we never felt that she is miles away from us.

After the entry of Aanya, the scene changed a lot with all of us shifting our attention towards her. nieceMy dad makes it a point to ask me or Balaji if Gayu was on Skype. He checks his emails daily to see if there are any new photos of Aanya uploaded. Weekend never passes by without him logging in to Skype at least once in three hours to see if Gayu was on. The news of my sister’s itinerary brought excitement to us all. Mom is really happy to have the young one back in India. Balaji as always is calm, composed. But he hinted that he will take Aanya out to railway station to show her train. One of our uncles did that to Balaji. Dad is sure to tend the visiting ladies with utmost care and warmth.

What am I doing amidst all these? I am thrilled as everyone is. I was even thinking of what to do if my niece started walking when she visits us. I was thinking of buying her anklet (kolusu) so that we can enjoy the jill… jill… sound when she walks around the home. Also, I am planning to take a week long vacation in March just to ensure that I am with my cute little niece.

Excitement to be continued…..

Update Sis and niece did not turn up due to some unavoidable reasons :(

Sweet Memories – Umesh wedding

Balaji, Susheel and I were off to Ottapalam, Kerala for Umesh’s wedding. It was a good journey an opportunity to meet new people. I got new friends in Nicky and Vinu (Umesh’s cousins) and Susheel. We met Shikha (our blog friend) and her mom. Umesh’s family was loving and greeted and treated us well. More about the trip in a separate post.

Captured some moments of our trip with my Canon SD camera. Here is a Flickr slideshow of our travel and Umesh’s wedding.

My wishes to Umesh and Tejasi for a wonderful life ahead.

Tata’s one lakh rupees car

Although I am not a motor enthusiast, I am thrilled to see how the mch hyped, awaited , Tata’s one lakh rupees car is going to be. Buzz is that Tata has plans to unveil the one lakh rupees car in New Delhi Auto expo which is to be held between january 10 and January 18 2008.

The car is expected on road by the latter part of 2008. As with every new product, there are both optimistic and pessimistic views on the car. Lot of emails have been floating around with pictures of the car flooding the corporate mail exchange servers, but the integrity of it cannot be believed until we see it for ourselves.

The pessimistic views are from the competitors and other motor companies in India who speculate that Tata motors has to compromise on quality and safety standards by offering at such a price. Socialists criticize that such cars are not necessary in the already congested Indian roads. Imagine a city like Bangalore or Chennai, which is already struggling to breathe amidst heavy traffic and high pollution levels. But Ratan Tata, the chairman of the Tata group is much confident by brushing aside all these remarks. He says that the new car will be a milestone in Indian car industry and it will abide by the safety standards. This reminds us of the mobile revolution created by Reliance some years ago. When Reliance communications spoke about mobile phones within Rs.1000, none of them believed it. Reliance emerged as a winner and is one of the fastest growing mobile service providers in the Indian market. Let’s see how the Tata group handles this challenge.

I thought of buying a car before a year but I am very much happy to use the public transport system now. Considering the fact that I am spending 4 hours of my daily life commuting to office, I am not sure if I can handle Chennai’s traffic with a car. Also the price of fuel kept increasing which made me to drop the idea of buying a car. Let me see if Tata’s new car induces me into the idea again. I also need to think on the terms that neither the traffic nor the fuel cost is going to go down because of this new entrant. Let me see how it goes. Let me wait till the Auto Expo. At least this makes me thrilled and curious. :)

P.S.:- What will the Tata motors name this car? Is it already out and have I missed it? If not any guesses?
